All hail the smartphone! What a mother of an invention! Although undeniably a useful tool and something that we definitely need to navigate life in the 21st century, it’s probably fair to say that we all spend a bit too much of our time staring at that little black box in our hands.
Being aware of the risks posed by digital blue light, particularly at night, is probably wise and finding ways to regularly step away from your phone and have a digital detox will do you no end of good, both physically and mentally/emotionally.
This is where the gym really comes into its own. Think about using your training time each day as an opportunity to put your phone on silent, stashed in your gym bag and pretty much forgotten about.
Of course, dig it out to track your progress, log your workouts and make notes for future reference about form and where you need to improve, but your training time is an ace chance to put your phone on Do Not Disturb or flight mode, letting you forget all about those pinging emails, social media updates and other notifications.
There’s a lot to be said about the mindfulness of exercise and it can be hard to get in the zone if your attention is elsewhere, especially if you’re using your phone to watch random training videos to help you get to grips with gym life and what it’s all about.
Instead of watching a generic YouTube gym video you found after a quick online search, give me a call today to find out more about my coaching. I’ll help you move past Instagram tip videos and feel more confident in the gym.
